School Services

Services provided by Dunrae Gardens School:

School caretakers and maintenance workers are responsible for the cleaning and general maintenance of the school building and grounds, providing a clean and safe environment for students and staff.

For electrical or plumbing work, a specialist is provided to the school by the school board.

The computer lab technician assists teachers and students with computer related activities and programs. In conjunction with the teacher, He or she also ensures that students respect safety and privacy rules when in the computer lab.

School libraries enrich and support the educational program of the school and provide a wide range of materials, with diversity of appeal and different points of view.

The role of the school librarian (Documentation Technician) is to provide assistance to students and staff in regard to research and use of the library facilities. He or she also manages the classification system, document conservation and disposal.

The school provides supervision on school grounds during lunchtime, in-between classes and during breaks to ensure that rules are observed and that students are safe.

The special education technician applies techniques and methods in keeping with an individualized education plan intended for special needs students, students with social maladjustments or learning difficulties in keeping with a program designed for students requiring specific support.

Services provided by the English Montreal School Board:

The computer technician (ITS Field Services Technician) installs new computer applications, troubleshoots network connectivity, repairs complicated breakdowns and assists analysts in the development and implementation of new computer systems within the school.

Dietitians travel from school to school visiting classrooms and cafeterias to talk to students about eating nutritious foods and being healthy. The EMSB in-class programs aim to teach students how to make healthy food choices and instill the values of eating nutritious foods and living a healthy lifestyle.

The occupational therapist works with parents and/or caregivers and others to assess if a student has difficulties with practical and social skills and recommends appropriate strategies in order to maximise the student's potential when carrying out activities of daily living.

A child psychologist is assigned to the school on a 1 day per week basis. His/her principal task is to facilitate the adaptive and developmental functions of the child within the school context and beyond.

A speech and language pathologist is available to evaluate, diagnose and recommend strategies for students with speech and language delays and disorders

The spiritual care and guidance and community involvement animator provides services to elementary and secondary students of all faiths and cultural traditions. Each community animator is responsible for the spiritual and communal development of students in a cluster of schools within a region.

The role of the animator is to conduct activities to help students gain a deeper understanding of particular questions, solve problems and build links between their spiritual life and community. The animator encourages the development of emotional and spiritual intellect by helping students participate in improving the community and society around them.

The community animator works on a team with other animators to develop and implement programs or activities of a community, humanitarian, spiritual and religious nature for larger groups of schools.

He or she also provides information and guidance to staff, parents, and students with respect to religious beliefs and needs in terms of spiritual life and community involvement.

Services provided by the Centre de santé et de services sociaux:

The school nurse is available to provide consultation, screening, prevention, vaccinations, referral and health/vaccination records for students.

A social worker is assigned to the school on a part-time basis. The role of the social worker is particularly important in the area of family intervention or counselling.
