The emphasis of our physical education & health program is on the importance of physical fitness to overall well-being and how these can be easily integrated into daily life. Our students learn these important life lessons and habits though personal, simple and portable exercises. In addition, inventive games of tag, skipping rope, tobogganing, ice skating, and even circus arts keep students moving while having fun. When opportunity arises, students have gym class outside in our expansive green space.
In addition to instilling the importance health skills, our physical education program also introduces the concept of sportsmanship. Students are given the opportunity to participate in GMAA activities whereby broad participation is the leading goal. Our Cycle 3 students participate in the 2km Halo Road Race held annualy at Mount Royal. We also host friendly competitive events beyond the GMAA activities. For example, our Cycle 2 students have the opportunity to run their own 1km “Halo “race.
There are several highlights of our physical education program, such as a school-wide Olympic Day in the spring, where teams made up of students from all grades each represent a specific country and participates in a variety of games. The event teaches teamwork, sportsmanship and even geography. It is an event that is highly anticipated every year.
For the past several years, Jungle Sport has come to Dunrae for a week in the Fall. In addition, our Grade 4 and 6 students take part in the very popular Camp Boute-en-Train overnight trips.
